Jaden Cookie Crunch
Our mascot, the jade cricket we’ve lovingly named Jaden, finally gets his cookie moment! 🍪 For this little adventure, we created a custom cookie consent banner so he could chomp happily on cookies while keeping things compliant.

For this little adventure, we decided to lean into a cartoon animation style — letting Jaden chomp happily on a cookie to bring some humor to what’s normally one of the driest pieces of web content imaginable: the cookie consent banner.
I fired up GIMP, and within about an hour, we had our very first animated Jaden — a simple four-frame loop of him munching away on those delicious web cookies. 😋
Creating those four frames turned out to be its own little experiment. I wanted Jaden to feel hand-drawn, a bit imperfect — the way old Saturday-morning cartoons bounce slightly from frame to frame. Each frame was painted on a separate transparent layer, then exported as a looping GIF. It wasn’t fancy compositing or After Effects magic, just old-school frame-by-frame patience. Watching him come to life for the first time felt like seeing a studio mascot take his first breath.
Building Our Custom Cookie Consent Banner
Of course, giving Jaden his spotlight meant creating a custom slide-in banner for the website and tying it into the existing cookie consent logic. That turned into quite the rabbit hole! Because cookie regulations vary by region — not just around the country, but globally — we chose to integrate a professional compliance solution to handle the legal side.
What I didn’t realize at the time was that doing so would lock us into their graphics, their pop-ups, and their forms. With only a modest programming background and no formal JavaScript training, I spent the next four days in “JavaScript Land,” building a bridge between our custom system and theirs — ensuring everything still worked properly while keeping Jaden front and center.
It was, to put it mildly, a crash course in every subsystem you never wanted to meet. 🫤 But it was worth it.
What those four days in JavaScript Land taught me was how interconnected a modern website really is. A single button click touches layers of code, privacy logic, and visual design — and when any one of those pieces fights back, you learn to debug with humility. I came away with a deeper respect for front-end developers who live in that space daily. For anyone else building a custom cookie consent banner, my advice is simple: keep good notes, test in multiple browsers, and celebrate the little victories when the console finally goes quiet.
Because at Jade Cricket Productions, the heart and soul of what we do lives in the details. The big things matter, yes — but so does the minutia. Every small interaction is a chance to turn something routine (and often groan-worthy) into a little moment of humor, charm, or delight.
And for that reason, I don’t regret spending those four days in JavaScript hell. We emerged with a working, custom cookie consent banner that’s unmistakably Jade Cricket Productions — and Jaden got to have his cookie. ❤️
Jaden’s cookie adventure also opened the door for future fun. Now that we have a working animation pipeline, we can give him new scenes for seasonal updates — maybe sipping cocoa in December or waving a lantern when the Village Elders site launches. Tiny touches like these remind visitors that there are real humans behind the code, smiling right back at them.
As small as this project seemed, it captured what Jade Cricket Productions is about—curiosity, persistence, and a touch of mischief. Each challenge we tackle adds another spark to the creative fire that keeps this studio alive.
